Danger of species extinction in the UK is greater than ever. Wildlife and ecosystems are at risk. When species disappear, we lose important natural functions like pollination, pest control, and decomposition, destroying food chains, impacting both wildlife and people. We lose part of our natural heritage and our ecosystems are less able to cope with climate change. Saving species from extinction is essential for keeping our environment healthy, balanced, and strong for the future.

We will focus action to protect ten vulnerable species in Gwent, including Barn Owl, Hedgehog, Nightjar, Pine Marten and Shrill Carder Bee. This will benefit the whole ecosystem, by restoring rich habitats and creating wildlife corridors. Community engagement and education are crucial, so we will provide opportunities for people to get involved, empowering them to protect their natural heritage. Together, we can create a thriving, vibrant environment for future generations.
