Long-standing issues involving religious persecution and violence in Myanmar have deteriorated significantly since the military coup in 2021. The army has weaponised religious tensions to consolidate their authority, increase division and suppress human rights. Hundreds of places of worship have been bombed and burned, including over 220 churches. There is a growing humanitarian crisis with 2.6 million people displaced and more than 18 million people in need.

Using 12 years' experience working in Myanmar and building on 8 years of our Freedom of Religion and Belief (FORB) project, we will: Continue to build trust between different faith communities, through training, workshops and other locally designed, creative and innovative initiatives. Contribute to international efforts for a peaceful solution to the political crisis by supporting human rights organisations (HROs) to work safely, including the gathering of information on human rights abuses.
