Orchid Project is an international NGO, with offices in Nairobi and London, working to create a world free from FGM/C. At the heart of our mission are grassroots organisations that are pioneering change, and by working together, one step at a time, we believe we can help to end FGM/C globally.

Female genital cutting (FGC) is a harmful traditional practice involving the full, partial removal, or injury to a girl’s external genitals for no medical reason. 4.1 million girls are at risk in the next 12 months. Girls, on average, are cut under the age of 5. FGC is a human rights violation, impacting 200 million women. FGC can cause: death at the time of cut, infections, PTSD and extreme obstetric problems. It’s practised in more than 45 countries and within diaspora communities worldwide.

We are a catalyst to end FGM/C, by undertaking research, generating evidence and curating knowledge to equip the sector. We do so by facilitating capacity strengthening of partners through knowledge sharing and learning, influencing regional and global policies and funding to end FGM/C through advocacy. Our approach to sustainable abandonment of FGM/C is through non-judgemental, human rights-led, supporting communities to choose to end the practice themselves.
