The Theatre runs a unique arts-led outreach programme engaging with marginalised and excluded families from underserved sections of our rural community. We use arts & drama to build long term relationships which promote self-esteem, positive mental health, resilience, creativity and confidence.

Situation
We are based in a diverse rural community, sections of which are amongst the 10% most deprived nationally. Many young people are experiencing mental health challenges, increasing child poverty, often combined with SEN, leading to low self-esteem, school refusal, exclusion and marginalisation. Opportunities to access the benefits of creative arts have been extremely limited for these groups due to economic or cultural barriers and lack of provision for neurodiverse or SEN groups.
Solution
Over the last 3 years The Theatre has developed & delivered an ambitious arts-led outreach programme to build a creative, confident and cohesive rural community and achieve long-term change by building relationships with families from marginalised and excluded sections of our community. Bursaries are a key part of this programme, allowing us to offer opportunities for those who want to engage with arts and drama but would not otherwise be able to do so due to economic or cultural barriers.
