Situation
Abortion access is restricted in almost every European country, either by law, lack of availability, conscientious objection or prohibitive costs. On average ASN hears from 3 people a day who need help accessing abortion care, and a third of these need financial support to get an abortion overseas. ASN exists to ease the financial burden of getting an abortion, as not being able to afford an abortion should never be the only reason someone continues a pregnancy.
Solution
We provide financial aid, and informed, safe advice to people who need our help to travel for an abortion. We'll be here for people who can't access abortion care at home until everyone has access to free, safe, legal, and local abortion care. Abortion stigma makes information difficult to access, so some callers simply need signposting. But over a third of the people we hear from need financial aid to ensure they can afford an abortion. We expect to give over £240,000 in grants in the next year
