Situation
Not many disabled people play in orchestras. In fact, just 2%* of orchestra musicians identify as disabled. That’s a problem when you consider 19% of the working-age population are disabled. Jonah, NOYO trombonist, sums this up perfectly: “As a young disabled musician, you have very few opportunities, as most music groups for young people are not inclusive at all. So lots of young disabled musicians have nowhere to go, no one to play with and their talents are wasted.” *Arts Council England 2021
Solution
“I’d never have seen myself playing with an orchestra as I simply thought I was just not good enough. NOYO has taught me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.” Sally, former NOYO musician NOYO offers life-changing accessible opportunities for young people to explore their talent for music together. 80%+ of NOYO musicians are disabled. We work in partnership with prestigious arts and education organisations to create greater inclusive opportunities for young disabled people.
