Situation
Britain’s network of rivers is facing the devastating effects of agricultural, sewage and industrial pollution. No river has good status for chemicals, and only 14% are in good ecological condition. This, combined with over abstraction and climate change, is putting our future water supply at risk. There is a predicted shortfall of 5 billion litres a day by 2050, and water companies already leak 3 billion litres! From food to schools, clean water is crucial for people and our economy to thrive.
Solution
We take a holistic approach that tackles the issue on all levels. Our River Rescue Kit supports communities with all the tools to gather evidence of pollution and rescue their river. We amplify stories across the UK mobilising public opinion and putting pressure on decision makers through our collective voice. We work nationally taking legal action against the Government to make sure the law is enforced and polluting industries are regulated, and promote positive river-friendly solutions.
