We want to provide children and young people growing up in urban slums in Nepal who are deprived of an education with a pathway out of poverty to a brighter safer future, by enabling them to enrol or return to school and/or access informal learning and personal development opportunities.

Nepal is one of the world's poorest and least developed countries where 38% of children don't complete secondary education, and 24% don't complete basic education. Reasons for this are complex and include: inability to afford uniforms, books etc; lack of parental care/guidance; previous bad experiences of school (excessive discipline, academic focus, teacher attitudes to the poorest); need to work to supplement family income; need to care for family members; child marriage/early parenthood.
We will identify out-of-school children through engagement with vulnerable communities and collaboration with local schools. Recognising the situation and abilities of each child is different, we will aim to provide access to learning opportunities that align with each individual's needs. This could include provision of uniforms & books, learning support via community-based after-school clubs, family counselling or access to alternative learning and training opportunities within the community.
