Starting secondary school is a formative time for a child; while exciting, it can induce feelings of anxiety and trepidation. A positive start can affect their educational outlook for years, so it’s essential they feel prepared for the change. Arts participation can develop vital tools and skills to help with this but sadly, access is not equal for everyone. Primary schools are also experiencing cuts to their arts provision, and so many young people may begin secondary school at a disadvantage.

We will deliver in-school drama workshops with the core themes of transition and change for pupils attending state primary schools in London, supporting their development and helping them take ownership over the next steps of their school journey. By focusing on schools in areas of low arts provision, we will ensure children of all backgrounds benefit from arts participation, build cultural capital and become confident, curious and proactive as they approach a new chapter in their lives.
