Situation
When we think about seeking medical care, we think about “going” to the doctor. For most in the North, that is exactly what happens. We go. But for many in rural Africa, “going” to receive medical care or a check-up is simply not an option as the health centre is many hours and tens of miles away. The journey is too expensive for low income families to make, and so they don't go. For pregnant mum's, for those living with diabetes or hypertension, those decisions can be life threatening.
Solution
Amref has delivered mobile health clinics for over 65 years. Every month, a tents are set up in isolated villages and women, children, and the elderly gather outside these tents to seek medical services. Every month, Amref, together with medical staff, supports the provision of health services. Each mobile health outreach brings an ambulance, medical equipment, and healthcare workers to help treat community members who live in some of the most marginalized places across rural Sub-Saharan Africa.
