Many young people with learning disabilities exit education unprepared for the adult world. Very few will qualify for adult social care support. They have not yet developed the skills and understanding needed to find a job. They don’t know where to look for ongoing support. They don’t have a structure in their life that allows them to flourish. Often this can lead to people retreating into themselves; choosing a life of limited horizons, unfulfilled potential and hopelessness.

We will introduce a range of support specifically aimed at young people and their families to help them kick start their adult life This includes two years of targeted support such as supported volunteering, groups to learn skills and develop relationships and help with everyday activities like shopping. Tailored work programmes will help people gain the skills and opportunities they need to work towards fulfilling employment. Activity programmes with other young people to make friends.
