At Cerebral Palsy Cymru, giving babies the best possible start in life and supporting their families is at the heart of everything we do. Our specialist early intervention service, ‘Better Start, Better Future’ is a unique service in the UK, combining specialist therapy and family support.

When families first contact us, they are often still recovering from birth trauma, trying to cope as a new parent and with the fact their child may have a disability. They often know little about cerebral palsy and feel hopeless, experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD and feelings of guilt and isolation. Having a child with cerebral palsy affects the whole family, and having access to intervention and advice right from the start reduces the level of trauma and stress they experience.

In Autumn 2024, we launched a new fund to help protect and sustain our vital family support service to ensure that families living with cerebral palsy can access life-changing advice, emotional support and counselling. The fund is named ‘The Glenys Evans Family Support Fund’ to honour Glenys’ astonishing legacy of setting up ‘Cerebral Palsy Cymru’ in 1992 and, in doing so, enabling thousands of families across Wales to access our specialist therapy and support services.
