Each year the costs of maintaining and managing our 45 nature reserves and equipping our dedicated team of staff and volunteers with vital equipment is increasing. It is ever more important, but also challenging to do the work we need to do to give wildlife a future. While the wild places we care for are havens for wildlife, we need to do more work to improve them to support struggling species such as water voles, yellow hammers and curlew.

Situation
In Staffordshire, latest estimates indicate that only 5% of land is managed and protected for nature. Wildlife numbers are plummeting. 1 in 6 species face extinction. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is leading efforts to halt and reverse this decline, but the natural world is in crisis, and protecting existing wildlife is not enough - we need to make more space for nature and bolster numbers. Our goal is to raise vital funds so we can do this at our nature reserves.
Solution
With your help we can support our staff and volunteers in managing our nature reserves for the benefit of both wildlife and people. We need to maintain paths, plant trees and hedges to support finches, repair and replace fencing to keep grazing cattle secure, make sure existing trees are safe, create habitat such as wildflower meadows to support pollinators, clear scrub to allow heather to regenerate on our heathlands and block ditches to ensure wetlands are soaking up as much water as possible in our wetter winters. This funding will also boost our projects to help vulnerable species to recover, including creating habitat for pine marten and water voles.
