Firstly, people with learning disabilities often suffer from social isolation and difficulties acquiring new skills, building confidence, and flourishing as individuals. Their wellbeing suffers from not being able to spend time outdoors, socialising and learning new things. Secondly, Epping Forest is facing its biggest challenges in a generation due to increased pollution, climate change and adjacent development. The trees, and the Forest’s biodiversity, are suffering.

We will run 20 conservation sessions in the Forest for people with learning disabilities through our Happy Loppers project. This will enable 10 people with learning disabilities to continue to access nature, take part in physical exercise & improve their mental health & wellbeing. It will continue to support them to socialise, build their confidence and give them a sense of purpose and achievement. The hands-on conservation activities will improve the biodiversity of key areas of Epping Forest
