We need to raise £5000 to create a new interactive display for the transformed Museum, that will give future engineers the opportunity to test ideas and see how things work – just like the Brunels did!

The Brunel Museum tells the story of how the Brunel family transformed London by designing the world’s first successful tunnel under the Thames. However, like any Museum without regular funding, our displays need some updating. We are now approaching a major opportunity: the Brunel Museum Reinvented project is a once in a generation opportunity to reinvent our museum and exhibition spaces. As part of this, we want to develop family-friendly exhibits to inspire the next generation of engineers.

As part of our upcoming project, the Brunel Museum Reinvented, we want to include an interactive exhibit to help families & young people engage with the pioneering engineering techniques behind the Tunnel Shaft. The Thames Tunnel was where celebrated engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel first learnt his trade. And before the tunnel could be dug, the tunnel shaft was sunk into the ground: the first example of the Caisson method. Help inspire the next generation of engineers to think outside the box.
