Situation
In Madagascar, 83% of the population lives in extreme poverty on less than £1.50 per day. Chronic malnutrition affects almost 50% of children under five, causing severe stunting. Ranked as the most vulnerable in Africa to climate change, many children’s futures are bleak without quality education. Hunger and illness keep them from school, and parents can't afford school costs. Education for Life aims to provide essential support, ensuring every child can receive a quality education.
Solution
Education for Life supports vulnerable children by tackling educational barriers in rural areas. Over five years, we partner with communities and schools, enhancing facilities with classrooms, water systems, books, digital learning equipment and solar power. Teacher training ensures quality education. We combat hunger with kitchen gardens and school meals. Adult literacy and income-generating programmes empower parents. Our programme offers a sustainable path out of poverty for families.
