Books Abroad were the original recycller, totalling five miillion books over 42 years,both locally and world wide thus preventing these from going to landfill. We recently purchased our warehouse which is being refurbished to reduce our carbon footprint and make facilities environemental friendly.

Situation
A huge amount of good quality, second hand educational material which would be periodically disposed, is collected from schools, colleges, libraries and private individuals thoughout the United Kingdom. This is used to support developing countries worldwide through redistributiion to promote literacy,understanding and allievaite poverty. Our warehouse is no longer fit for purpose and requires upgrading to meet modern environemental targets, attract more volunteers and increase output.
Solution
We have purchased the warehouse from Aberdeenshire Council. Consequently,we require grants to complete the refurbishment which inclu in order to reduce our overheads considerably increase efficiency, resulting in a more sustainable and attractive working facility.This will lead to an expantion of our volunteer base, and enable us to increase opportunites for skills training and employment opportunties for young people as well as a greater output of materials to communities at home and abroad.
