Malawi's maternal & infant mortality rates are among the highest in the world. Today alone, 1,890 babies will be born in Malawi, 320 will become orphans & 87 will die before their 1st birthday from malnutrition or illness. For orphaned children, staying with the wider family is the best solution. But with 74% of the population living below the poverty line, many struggle to take on the care of a vulnerable baby and can't provide the food, shelter and care they need to grow & develop healthily.

Our Community-Based Care Programme works closely with struggling families who have been referred by Social Welfare - strengthening their capacity to successfully care for a vulnerable infant at home with expert training, tailored support & essential baby supplies. Guardians are also equipped to create new & sustainable income through activities such as small-scale farming, empowering them to utilise locally available resources and independently provide for their families over the long-term.
