Every two hours in the UK someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury. We provide practical support to those affected, from their first days in hospital & throughout the rest of their lives. Our Independent Living Service supports people to make informed choices to facilitate an independent life.

Situation
While in hospital, patients with spinal cord injuries receive a lot of crucial information on topics like accessible housing, personal care & specialist equipment. This can be overwhelming, making it hard to absorb all the essential advice to enable them to live an independent life. With shorter rehab times & limited NHS resources, patients often leave hospital unprepared, leading to complications like pressure sores or UTIs & frequent readmissions as they struggle to manage their condition.
Solution
Aspire’s Independent Living Advisors all have a Spinal Cord Injury & support newly injured patients across 10 Spinal Injury Centres in the UK to navigate the vital information they receive during rehab. Drawing on their experience & specialist training, they address various concerns from health plans & welfare benefits to travelling abroad in a wheelchair; nothing is off limits. The Advisors can offer practical advice, support & referrals to other Aspire services or external organisations.
