Situation
Imagine being diagnosed with an incurable cancer and then receiving no specific information on it just because it's rare. This is the reality for 4,000 WM patients and their families who live in the UK. They receive no specific information on diagnosis, have to navigate the often confusing healthcare system alone, and endure challenging symptoms for long periods without any contact with their healthcare teams. This leads to isolation, anxiety and an inability to advocate for their own care.
Solution
WMUK developed the world's first, and only, support line with direct access to a haematology nurse with the time and expert knowledge to answer questions, listen, reassure, and signpost patients to the tools they need to live well with WM. The support line has been so in demand (an 188% growth in number of contacts from April 2023 to March 2024) that we need to develop it to be more accessible so we can support even more patients.
