Situation
Brain injuries do not discriminate – they can happen in a split second to people of all ages in a variety of situations but the effects can last a lifetime. There are many possible causes: accidents, tumour, stroke, cardiac arrest or post viral infections such as meningitis. The impact can include: loss of independence, loss of employment or life role, increased stress and breakdowns in family relationships, low self-esteem and lack of confidence, anxiety, depression, poor memory and fatigue.
Solution
We provide information and deliver community-based rehabilitation to over 200 people each year through occupational therapy, enablement, cognitive therapies, support groups as well as music, art and sports therapies, helping people to adapt to life after brain injury and regain a degree of independence so that they can live fulfilled lives. HTV is a community and social network that people living with a brain injury belong to.
