The environmental movement is very privileged. We want to develop and support new Voices of Transition. We will enhance the profiles of diverse people in the Transition Movement that have different stories to tell; those that, because of their backgrounds, are less likely to be heard and seen.

Situation
Leadership of environmental organisations often does not reflect the diversity of the grassroots nor does it speak to the diversity of lived experiences of people impacted by climate change and biodiversity loss. The same is true of the Transition movement. There are 26 transition hubs spanning 40+ countries and thousands of local initiatives across the globe yet the voices most seen and heard at the international level are predominantly white Europeans of privilege.
Solution
We are developing Voices of Transition, a project that enhances the public profiles of transition activists from diverse backgrounds. We’ll be platforming people with distinct profiles to tell their stories through training in public speaking, creative writing, and online communications. We will identify, support, and promote those within our movement that have the potential to inspire change across our societies and those best placed to spearhead a socially just transition.
