Scotland’s waters are home to over 6,500 species, including iconic basking sharks, orcas, Atlantic salmon and puffins. All marine life relies on healthy waters – but our seas are in a rapid state of decline. We must act now to restore our marine environment for wildlife and people to thrive.

Scotland’s waters make up over 60% of the UK’s seas, and contain internationally important populations of key species. However, cumulative damage from pollution, increasing temperatures and unsustainable use of marine resources are leaving many precious species struggling to survive. We are working to enhance and build upon the knowledge and skills found within local Scottish communities to secure a healthier future for Scotland’s marine environment.

To protect marine life, we need to make important connections. We strive to connect people with Scotland’s incredible seas, and help communities take action. To succeed, we need to link people across the country (especially in key coastal communities) with the policy-makers who make key decisions on how our seas are used. Alongside communities, we will enhance local awareness, skills and confidence, helping people join the consultations that impact their local marine environment.
