Suicide is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35 and 7% of all young people have said they have attempted to take their own life by the age of 17, according to a paper in the British Journal of Psychiatry. Suicide rates among young females have been steadily increasing over several years. Females aged 24 years or under have seen the largest increase in suicide rates since ONS records began collecting the information in 1981, while men continue to account for three quarters of suicide.

HOPELINE247 Advisers are highly trained professionals who give callers the confidence to speak openly and honestly in a way they may have never done. Advisers allow callers the time to talk through their reasons why suicide has become an option for them, and their reasons for reaching out for support. By doing this the Adviser assists the caller to identify their own reasons for living and helps keep them stay safe from suicide.
