Situation
Ghana faces both a critical skills shortage and high graduate unemployment rate. A skills mismatch prevents young people from successfully making the transition from education into work. Efforts to increase youth employment are held back by a lack of data and evidence: universities are unable to guide students on industry trends and in-demand skills while the government struggles to develop relevant skills policies., employers don’t know how to effectively partner with universities.
Solution
ESSA will connect policymakers, employers, higher education institutions, and students in Ghana to the data and evidence they need to make informed decisions and design effective programs. By providing actionable insights and fostering collaborations between employers and universities, we will support them to improve career services, align educational programs with industry needs, establish alumni mentoring initiatives and increase students’ understanding of skills needed in the modern workplace
