While many services close for Christmas, Shout - the only 24/7 text service - and The Mix, the UK’s leading digital support for young people, stay open. Anxiety, loneliness and suicidal thoughts don’t take a holiday. If anything, they can get worse at this time of year.

Over the festive season, negative feelings such as grief, loneliness or depression can be amplified. This takes place when many other services are winding down for the year and there is less support available for people who are struggling. Over the Christmas period, nearly 30,000 people will text Shout for support with their mental health. In 40% of the conversations we take at Christmas, texters report having suicidal thoughts. 59% say they texted us because they have no one else to talk to.

Shout is the only text support service that’s free and available to everyone in the UK during Christmas. Whatever issue a young person is facing, The Mix is always there for them. Our services are silent, anonymous, accessible and always available 24/7. By donating to us now, your gift will be doubled, meaning you’re helping us to support a further 6,000 people this winter - support that could be life-saving.
