Situation
In Ethiopia's remote areas, limited healthcare and a lack of awareness compound the challenges faced by children with cleft lip and palates. Without treatment, infants struggle to breastfeed, risking malnutrition and infection - 15-20% of patients arrive undernourished. Children with untreated cleft lip and palates go on to encounter additional obstacles in social integration due to prevalent stigmatisation and isolation, fuelled by misinformation and judgement surrounding facial differences.
Solution
Our programmes provide access to free life changing treatments and support for children with cleft conditions. This campaign will help to provide access to cleft lip and palate treatment for 50 children including nutritional support and counselling for those who arrive too undernourished for treatment. Children are able to return to school, make friends and become fully contributing members of their community.
