The Benedetti Foundation's inspiring Residency Sessions aim to transform music participation for 16,500+ 4-17-year-olds from lower arts-engaged and rural areas of the UK. In 2024/25 we will deliver music workshops in 135+ primary schools, and mass playing days in partnership with 15 Music Services.

Across the UK, there is a widening inequity in primary school music education provision due to budget constraints, shortage of music teachers and a lack of opportunities, especially in rural areas. We also know the pandemic significantly impacted the number of young musicians progressing through Music Services and has highlighted ongoing barriers that may prevent young people from taking up an instrument. Through our Residencies, we are helping to address these problems.

Working in partnership with 15 Music Services across all 4 UK nations, we will deliver free, meaningful, participatory music workshops in 135+ primary schools, as well as 15 Mass Instrumental playing days. We will work predominantly with schools and young people living in rural, socio-economically deprived or low-arts engaged areas. Vitally, our programme also includes the delivery of teacher training sessions to enable schools and instrumental teachers to develop long-term provision.
