According to the NHS, 1 in 5 children and young people in England aged 8-25 had a probable mental disorder in 2023. That equates to millions of parents and carers trying to support a struggling child. Many parents and carers may feel scared, alone and hopeless and have no idea where to turn for help. They may reach out to hugely overstretched local services and not get the help they need. This can leave them feeling isolated, unsupported and vulnerable to mental health problems of their own.

In an overwhelmed system, the greatest untapped source of support for young people struggling with mental health difficulties is their parents and carers. Most children look to them as their primary source of strength. Our resources will be based on sound evidence and the lived experience of families. It will empower parents and carers to be there when their children turn to them, giving them the knowledge, tools and connections they need to support their children confidently.
