CRASAC is the only specialist service in Coventry which provides support to women and girls aged over five who have been impacted by sexual violence. Our work helps them overcome the effects on well-being, physical and mental health, and regain lost power and control through counselling & advocacy.

Situation
Our biggest challenge is that demand far exceeds capacity. This means that many survivors of sexual violence can wait over a year to get the specialist counselling they so desperately need. 1 in 4 girls will experience childhood sexual abuse and 1 in 5 women over the age of 16 have experienced some form of sexual violence during their lifetime. 17% of victims of sexual violence report to the police, only 3% go to court. Evidence shows that with the right support 95% more likely to go to court.
Solution
Last year over 1,000 people were referred to CRASAC, we delivered over 3,000 counselling sessions, and almost 600 clients were supported through the Criminal Justice System. Waiting for counselling to start can feel like a state of limbo for many people and we are keen to provide a pre-therapeutic intervention and support for those on our waiting list.A pilot in 2022 of group symptom management workshops proved incredibly beneficial and in many cases, negated the need for one-to-one counselling.
