Soil is essential to all life on Earth, providing food, breathable air, water and shelter to wildlife. We simply can’t live without it. Yet our soil is in danger, with millions of tonnes lost each year to degradation and erosion. But it’s not too late. Your support can save our lifegiving soil.

Our soil is dying. It is being poisoned by chemicals and eroded by intensive farming and the destruction of trees. Yet the soil is our best ally in the fight against climate change, capturing vast amounts of carbon and storing water. Soil underpins the life-support systems of all life on Earth, making it essential for our survival and that of all our wildlife. 97% of the food we eat depends on our soil. We need to protect it before it is too late.

To restore soil health, farmers need support to change to sustainable ways of farming that don’t rely on harmful chemicals that leach into the soil. We are campaigning for the UK government to publish a full Soil Health Action Plan, for better monitoring of soil health, and more support for organic and nature-friendly farmers. Through our farm research networks, we are helping farmers trial and share sustainable farming innovations so they are driving the change to more nature-friendly farming.
