Situation
When people seek sanctuary in the UK, they face many barriers to integration. Adapting to a new culture and understanding different support systems can be overwhelming. Refugees experience unimaginable physical and psychological trauma on their journey to the UK and when they arrive here, they face poverty, isolation, mental health issues, language barriers, and discrimination. Since 1994 RSG has supported people to overcome these challenges so that they can rebuild their lives in the UK.
Solution
Our advice and casework team provides free legal advice and support with accessing healthcare, housing, benefits and more. They also provide practical support such as food parcels and referrals to emergency accommodation. Alongside advice, our drop-in sessions help refugees to make friends, build confidence and improve their mental health. We run one-to-one Befriending sessions where clients can learn English and make connections with others, and we host homework clubs for school children.
