In the Mumbai slums, hundreds of thousands of people live in cramped conditions, with poor infrastructure & sanitation. Poverty means disease is rife & leprosy is a growing problem. People affected by leprosy are unwanted by society, discriminated against & marginalised. Finding enough food to survive is difficult & healthcare costs are out of reach. If leprosy is not cured quickly, it destroys the use of hands and feet, causes blindness, & destroys lives. Medical care is desperately needed.

The Karuna Mobile Clinic is a staffed with trained medical practitioners and counsellors who understand how to detect, cure and treat leprosy complications. The team of volunteers will travel through the slums, providing both medical and psychological care for people affected by leprosy. They will also raise awareness about leprosy to combat stigma and promote inclusion. Teaching people self-care and sharing about good health practices will help to prevent disease in the long term.
