Situation
Social isolation is a devastating and sadly all too common problem for people with a learning disability and autistic people. Many of our group members can struggle to find a place in their community due to a lack of specialist support and opportunities to create the life they deserve to live. One in three young people with a learning disability spends less than one hour outside their home on a typical Saturday (Mencap, 2019). This can lead to loneliness and poor mental and physical health.
Solution
We provide activities at our accessible centre in Woking. Here people with additional needs can take part in a wide range of social and skill-based activities to grow confidence and a social circle. These activities provide vital short breaks for parents and carers who can trust LinkAble to provide a safe and supportive environment for their loved ones. To connect people to their community, we run regular day trips across Surrey to places such as outdoors centres, restaurants and museums.
