COCO believes education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and every child, everywhere should have access to quality schooling. By expanding an existing nursery school in Bwayi into a primary school, generations of children in this remote Kenyan community will be able to access education!

    Every child has the right to education, but in rural Bwayi access to schools is scarce. Many households in the area have low income and cannot afford transport, so children aged 6-12 walk dangerous routes each day, facing road accidents and wild dogs, to reach the nearest primary schools. Some parents choose to keep their children home for safety, while children that do make the journey arrive at school exhausted, resulting in poor academic performance.

    COCO will increase access to education for those living in Bwayi by supporting an existing nursery school to expand its capacity. Building a new classroom will enable the school to extend its offering from nursery education up to primary school level. This will reduce the need for children to walk long and dangerous roads to get to primary schools elsewhere.
