Across southern Africa, the lack of opportunities to engage with and learn about bats poses a critical challenge to bat conservation. Despite the region's rich biodiversity and the crucial ecological roles bats play, there are only a few local bat groups. This scarcity limits public understanding and appreciation, leading to negative perceptions and threats to bat populations. Without local advocates, bats and their habitats are more vulnerable to environmental degradation and human conflict.

We believe that one of the biggest impacts BwB can have is to support capacity strengthening of on-the-ground bat conservation and inclusive engagement across southern Africa. Our solution focuses on establishing and empowering local bat groups to become effective advocates for bat conservation. By fostering a network of informed and passionate volunteers, we aim to create a sustainable and community-driven approach to protecting bats and their habitats.
