The iconic Assembly Hall was designed in the 1960s to be a world-class arts space for school pupils and the wider community. It is now a much-loved local asset, regularly used by community groups across Camden. A lack of disabled access and damaging adaptations prior to its listing mean the Hall is no longer fit for purpose. Without investment, the heritage of this unique example of Brutalist architecture will be lost, alongside its benefits to the 12,000 local people who access it yearly.

Funding from our Hall for All campaign will transform the Hall’s disability access, and upgrade staging, seating, acoustics, lighting, and ventilation, restoring its former glory. Our Community-Led Management board, which represents 13 groups, including Camden Youth Service, the Somali Youth Development Resource Centre, an anti-racist theatre company, and residents, is driving plans to ensure the Hall continues to serve the community. We will also preserve community heritage by creating the UK’s first Museum of Brutalist Architecture.
