Beneficiaries
The number of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) in the UK increased in 2023 with the total estimated to be 851,000. We support vulnerable youth in North London who face considerable obstacles in securing employment, such as low educational achievement, criminal records, multigenerational unemployment, mental health problems, and homelessness. Our mission is to help them find purpose and meaning through employment or further education.
Spear Islington runs the "Spear Programme" for 100 young people each year. It is a year-long and begins with Spear Foundation, an intensive six-week phase where the young people acquire the essential skills for employment, such as CV writing and interview practice, along with fostering positive mindsets and resilience. This is followed by Spear Career, which provides a year of support as they actively seek sustained employment.
