Situation
Between 2014/15 and 2021/22, the percentage of children living in relative poverty, after housing costs across the North East rose by nine percentage points, from 26% to 35% - the steepest increase experienced by any UK nation or region during that time, with the North East currently having the second highest child poverty rate of anywhere in the country. Children living in poverty often go without necessities so we will help provide help to struggling families this Chrsitmas.
Solution
We will work with a range of partners who are already trying to tackle the problem of child poverty. Our partners include Together for Children, Children North East, Love, Amelia and The Children's Society. These organisations have identified the families with children who are struggling most, The MAC Trust's 'Child Aid' concerts will shine on a spotlight on a problem which is often hidden. We will also raise funds to provide help in the shape of nappies, teddies and footballs and other needs.
