We are a UK charity creating trauma-informed, fully furnished homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse at no cost to them. We use furnishings donated by the interiors industry that would otherwise end up in landfill. A safe, comfortable home improves mental wellbeing and reduces poverty.

Over 50% of children in London live in poverty and less than 2% of social housing is provided with any furnishing (not even flooring or curtains). These are significant challenges for women given empty flats after fleeing domestic abuse, often with limited or no access to finances. Women are at a high risk of returning to the perpetrator if their choice is to either take out a high interest loan or live in a cold, empty home. Yet 22mn items of furniture end up in landfill annually in the UK.

Furnishing Futures creates beautiful, trauma-informed, fully-furnished, healing homes for women and children who've escaped domestic abuse and been placed in empty housing. We use good quality furniture donated by the interiors industry (ex-display, unwanted stock etc) that would otherwise go in landfill. The women they can choose how their home is furnished, giving them back control and autonomy. We also offer practical and advocacy support to help rebuild women's lives.
