We are raising funds for Save the Rhino Trust’s (SRT) Mule Patrol Unit in Namibia. Our fundraising will help the team to continue their vital work monitoring and recording threatened black rhinos across a large, remote and challenging landscape, as well as deterring rhino poaching threats.

Namibia is home to the largest black rhino population in the world, having recovered their numbers to more than 2,000 after severe poaching losses in the 1980s. However, these animals face ongoing poaching risks. It is critical that each rhino is closely monitored to check its location, wellbeing and deter poaching activity. In the Kunene region, rhinos are spread across a vast area, much of which is inaccessible by vehicle. Innovative solutions are required to help SRT’s rangers find every rhino

Since it was established in 2021, SRT’s Mule Patrol Unit has been invaluable in providing a conservation presence across a remote area, seeking out and verifying sightings of rhinos that would otherwise not be possible. This fundraising appeal will provide important funding to support the annual costs of the Unit in 2025, including ranger team salaries, patrol and riding equipment, mule feed and medicine, as well as build new, safe accommodation to house the Unit’s rangers.
