Diversity is more than just a buzzword, it's the lifeblood of innovation, creativity, and progress, yet the lack of gender diversity in jazz instrumentalists is a reminder that there is work to be done. Despite the undeniable contributions to the genre by women, they remain vastly underrepresented. Women and girls face multiple cultural barriers and industry stereotypes, and lack the visible role models and opportunities needed to develop into the female jazz musicians and leaders of the future.

BTSB will enable young female musicians to ‘see what they can be’, belief in what they can achieve is the first step in overcoming so many industry barriers. They will access role models and mentors who have already faced similar challenges on their journey. We will help nurture their passion and promote higher level music education. It is essential that we inspire girls in schools to make sure we build inclusive creative communities, where everyone is valued and empowered to grow as musician.
