We provide therapy for children impacted by the trauma of domestic abuse. We need to increase the number of therapists so we can support more children who are significantly impacted by their exposure to trauma and support their recovery so they can thrive.

Situation
Research shows exposure to domestic abuse affects brain development, relationships, emotional regulation, and behaviour. Untreated, it can lead to mental health issues like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and cognitive and physical problems. Traumatic stress from abuse, boundary violations, betrayal, rejection, confusion, and denial leaves children feeling powerless. Early intervention with safe therapeutic spaces reduces long-term impacts, supports recovery, and helps children heal and thrive.
Solution
Early intervention is key to reducing the long-term impacts of domestic abuse on children’s mental health. By increasing capacity, we provide more opportunity to support children’s mental health at a point of most need and reducing the risk of developing more significant issues as children grow into adulthood. Right door at the right time is essential for children who have experienced domestic abuse.
