Situation
Austerity and changes to education policy have had a drastic impact on music-making in state schools, compounded by the pandemic. Creativity has been pushed to the margins, with schools offering little or no access to high-quality music. Many young people from under-privileged backgrounds across the country are therefore being denied the opportunity to discover their musical potential. All students should have access to creating live music alongside amazing musicians, no matter where they are.
Solution
Our Visiting Quartet support a wide range of deep-learning, long-term projects, such as activities that connect composers and young people. This includes string quartet repertoire and student compositions being developed and performed by professional musicians. In Sheffield, our Visiting Quartet collaborate with partners to create the next generation of world-class string players. Your support can help us expand our activity and approach further afield, inspiring young people across the country.
