Situation
A victim of its own beauty! Climate & visitor pressures on England's highest peaks are thinning upland soils & fragile montane habitats, already sensitive to erosion. Once vegetation is trampled, roots struggle to hold their precious soils together. Exposed, they wash away! Our increased, intense rainfall is eroding soil more quickly than ever before. Combined with impact from path users, each small imprint, little by little, adds damage to paths, plants & wildlife. Please help us act now.
Solution
Fix the Fells' expert Rangers & 160 volunteers will deliver their field ready, proven, pathwork plans: - Considering; specific heritage, hydrology, geology, native species & conservation of each area - Working alongside all path users to restore the best route for everyone - Building spaces for our fragile, endangered nature in every path - like mini ponds, peat bogs & shelter for bugs - Repurposing or using only local & sustainable resources - Maintaining robust paths for generations to come
