86% of people with learning disabilities want to work, yet only 5% are in paid employment. At SeeAbility we’re determined to change this and with help from The Big Give in 2018 we launched a supported employment programme. It’s been a great success and now we need your help to take it to London.

Research shows that whilst most people with learning disabilities want to work, their unemployment rates are amongst the highest in the UK. The UK employment rate is 80% for non-disabled people, 47% for disabled people, and just 5% for people with learning disabilities. In some areas of London, the situation is worse with even fewer people with learning disabilities in paid work and a similar lack of employers that feel able to support a disabled person in their employment.

Participants will be paired with a Supported Employment Coach to help them explore their career aspirations, refine their CV, and hone their interview skills. This appeal will also allow us to establish a ‘Ready to Work Fund’ to help participants be job ready by helping them to get some smart clothes or a travel card for instance. When participants have secured a job, and to ensure long-term success, their coach will continue to work with them and their employer for up to twelve months.
