Situation
Increasing numbers of dancers seek our charitable support. The perfect storm of rising living costs, job insecurity in a post-pandemic world, lack of professional development opportunities, and increased work intensification for lower real-term pay, has led them to exit the profession earlier. Dancers’ average retirement age is 35; the age at which their peers experience career progression and promotions, they are starting anew with limited financial resources or industry support to assist them.
Solution
As the only UK charity operating in this field, DCD’s expert team have developed a range of programmes to fit the individual circumstance of each dancer navigating career change. We offer retraining bursaries, private career conversations, psychological support sessions, mentoring programmes, and coaching opportunities with leading sector practitioners. We actively listen, and then respond, to the needs and aspirations of our diverse dance sector.
