Ibba Girls’ Boarding School attracts attention in South Sudan and internationally for its good quality and innovative education for marginalised girls. It is a beacon of hope and inspiration in a nation emerging from years of war, where only 25% of girls finish primary and 10% secondary school.

Situation
Only a minority of girls in South Sudan get school education beyond the age of 10. Over 71% of women are illiterate, which severely impacts life chances and opportunities for them, their families, and their communities. Girls face numerous barriers to education, shouldering many domestic duties and often having to travel long distances to get to school. Some face forced or early marriage. Lack of education negatively impacts health, autonomy and participation in community and national life.
Solution
As a community boarding school for primary and secondary girls regardless of background or family status, Ibba Girls' Boarding School provides education, safety and nurture for girls from across the rural towns and villages of Western Equatoria State. Its innovative, good quality education is seen as a model for future education across the country. You can help today towards the costs of 15 teachers and 24 support staff (matrons, cooks, cleaners, security guards) for 360 girls next year.
