Many people do not realise that liver disease affects babies and children. But it does. Childhood liver disease is rare, complex and means a lifetime of medical care. When that diagnosis turns families’ lives upside down, we are there, with guidance and care for families every step of the way.

Situation
400 babies and children are diagnosed with childhood liver disease every year across the UK. Because it is rare doctors and nurses may only see one or two cases in their career - early signs may be missed. Late diagnosis in babies leads to complications and the increased likelihood of a baby needing a liver transplant. Parents are shocked and confused, angry and isolated; they tell us they feel helpless.
Solution
The British Liver Trust and Children’s Liver Disease Foundation have merged, to become the leading liver health charity in the UK. Our team offers crucial support when it’s needed most, providing young people with tailored support throughout their liver disease journey. We address every issue, provide vital information, and promote peer support of parents and teenagers to combat isolation. Our aim is for every child and young person affected to thrive and live life to the fullest.
