There’s strong evidence (from National Literacy Trust, Reading Agency) of the power of reading in education & wellbeing: better language & comprehension; wider vocabulary; reduced risk of mental health problems. 16-year-olds who read for pleasure are more likely to secure professional jobs. For young people who can’t read print, Calibre’s audiobooks give these benefits. There’s huge need; we reach 2,000 but 26,000 more across the UK are vision impaired, 2-3 in every classroom is dyslexic.

Your support will mean we can add 30 more non-fiction young people’s audiobooks to our collection. There’s very little children’s non-fiction available in audio, yet it’s so important for learning, especially curriculum support. What’s so special about Calibre is our wonderful volunteers, mainly actors and voice-over artists, can record these books for us meaning terrific quality recordings, with multiple copies freely available to any young people who struggle to read print.
